Kingussie are to continue with improvements to the Market Stance training facility.

The Red and Blues’ past president Russell Jones told the Strathy: “We are very hopeful that the installation of floodlights at the Market Stance will begin in mid-February.

“We are waiting on confirmation from one funding application to complete the jigsaw and if that is successful, weather permitting, the contractors will be on site by mid-February.

“All being well, the works will be completed by mid-March.

“This will make a huge difference to our club as it means we will have our own winter training facility at a fraction of the cost of hiring the school or the Aviemore astro pitches.

“We will also be able to play under-14 and under-17 matches under the lights in September and October evenings.

Mr Jones was keen to stress: “Although Kingussie Camanachd Club has a 25-year lease of the Market Stance, we are very keen that it is seen as a community facility and other clubs will be able to hire it as well.

“The lights will be 200 lux which is the same as Aviemore astro.”

• Badenoch ladies club has made an appeal for help on match days.

The Mowi WCA National Division champions will have an increased number of fixtures next season with the addition of an under-14 team in the girls’ league.

Referees are always sought after, and the club has highlighted a Camanachd Association on-line referee training course which takes place today (Thursday) from 7pm to 9pm.

Anyone interested should contact the club.
