Lee Bain’s versatility is proving key for Kingussie this season.

The holders came from two goals down to beat Skye Camanachd 4-2 in their Artemis Macaulay Cup first round tie at Pairc nan Laoch at the weekend.

Bain bagged a hat-trick just seven days after starring in goals in thei Red and Blues win over Oban Camanachd.

Keeper Rory McGregor returned and boss Iain Borthwick moved Bain into attack – and his decision was richly rewarded.

He said: “Lee Bain was absolutely excellent. He kept a clean sheet last week when he played in goals against Oban and he scored a hat-trick this week so he’s loving life at the moment."

There was also good news with the long awaited return from Thomas Borthwick in the cup game, and he looked like he had lost none of his sharpness.

The Kings boss said: “I’m really delighted to have Thomas Borthwick back. He looks really fit and he had four shots on target, one was going like a bullet and looked goal-bound until it hit a defender.

"He looked really lively."

It was Thomas Borthwick's first appearance since he suffered a serious knee injury in a 3-1 win over Newtonmore on 10 July, 2021, also in the Artemis Macaulay Cup.

Bain, crucially, pulled a goal back on 40 minutes for the Kings so that they only trailed 2-1 going into the break.

Kingussie introduced Borthwick after 54 minutes, replacing Iain Fraser, and he immediately forced Murphy Henderson into a save with his feet.

Bain equalised in the 65th minute and 72th minute with the returning Savio Genini also getting in on the act from the subs bench to complete the victory in the 78th minute.
