Diageo’s Highland distilleries – including Dalwhinnie – welcomed more than 100,000 visitors last year, latest figures have revealed.

Together, they contributed to the global drinks manufacturer breaking one million visits across its Scottish brand homes.

Some 54,000 visitors called in at Dalwhinnie Distillery with Singleton of Glen Ord Distillery at Muir of Ord welcoming more than 64,000 visitors whilst Clynelish Distillery by Brora hosted 18,000 visits.

Charlotte Brown, head of malt brand homes for Diageo, said: “Scotch whisky is well-established as Scotland’s leading export to the world and every bottle is an invitation to visit Scotland and experience its amazing culture, heritage and environment first hand.

“Scotch whisky tourism creates opportunities all across Scotland, from our capital city to the communities of the Highlands and Islands where many of our distilleries are located.

“We are incredibly pleased to have increased visitor footfall across our portfolio of brand homes and are proud to play our part in increasing tourism opportunities across the regions in which we operate.”

Marc Crothall, CEO of Scottish Tourism Alliance (STA), said: “These figures highlight further evidence that Scotch whisky is making a fantastic contribution to both driving visitor demand and growing Scotland’s visitor economy across the length and breadth of the country.”

Diageo has invested £185 million recently in its Scotch whisky visitor experiences including the new flagship Johnnie Walker Princes Street experience. The Singleton of Glen Ord Distillery, located in Muir of Ord, was named Scotland’s Leading Distillery Tour 2024 at the World Travel Awards (WTA) earlier this month.

All Diageo brand homes hold the Green Tourism Gold Award – the highest sustainability accolade for a visitor attraction.

According to the latest Scotch Whisky Association figures for the industry, more than two million people visited Scotch whisky visitor experiences in 2022.
