The A86 Newtonmore-Fort William road has reopened after being hit by flash flooding at the weekend.

There are still temporary traffic lights in place between Laggan Bridge and its junction with the A889 trunk road to Dalwhinnie.

Heavy rain on Saturday night lead to severe flooding and the closure of the A86 at Laggan.

An engineer from Scotland TranServ at the scene said that the road had partially collapsed.

The route had remained closed for some time due to concerns of further collapse because of the flood damage.

The nearby River Spey burst its banks, and flood water threatened to swamp the graveyard at Laggan Parish Church.

Temporary traffic lights also remain in use on the A82 Loch Ness side road at Glengloy.

A police spokesman said: "Roads throughout the force area remain affected by surface water.

"All road users are advised to take extra care."
