Kirsty Deans created a piece of Kingussie shinty history at the weekend by becoming the first woman to score in senior league game for the Red and Blues.

Deans made a scoring appearance from the bench as the Kingussie second team beat their Fort William counterparts 6-1 in their Mowi North Division 1 clash at the Dell on Saturday.

Having come on at half-time with the side already 3-0 up, Deans notched the fifth goal of the game on 72 minutes.

She also previously played against the Fort in Kingussie’s 2-0 HIS Sutherland Cup tie win at An Aird in early April.

Deans is not the first female player to represent the Kingussie seconds, Roma Fraser played for them previously.

However, she is understood to be the first to score in such a senioe fixture.

Having completed the football season with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Dean’s priorities now lie with the Badenoch side who are chasing a WCA Mowi National Division and WCA Mowi Valerie Fraser Camanachd Cup double.

But she has said she will help out the second team when needed.

Kingussie second team assistant manager Craig Dawson said: “Kirsty is a good player, arguably the best player in the women’s game. She is skilful, quick and athletic and it’s great that we can call on her when needed.”
