St Vincent's Hospital in Kingussie has closed to new admissions and visitors.

NHS Highland has confirmed that a member of staff at St Vincent’s Hospital in Kingussie has tested positive for Covid-19 and is isolating at home.

Health chiefs have said all infection control measures are in place but as a precaution they have closed the hospital to new admissions and all visiting has been suspended.

An NHS Highland spokesperson said: "We have informed patients and their families of this situation.

"Our Health Protection Team are currently in the process of conducting full contact tracing and any close contacts identified will be advised to stay at home and self-isolate for 14 days.

"In keeping with other areas of Scotland, NHS Highland has seen a significant increase in cases of Covid-19, and we would remind the public that it is essential that we all continue to follow FACTS – wear a face covering, avoid crowded places, clean your hands regularly, maintain two metres distance and self-isolate and book a test if you have symptoms."

Health chiefs are urging residents in the strath to remain vigilant for the symptoms of Covid-19.

The typical symptoms are a new continuous cough, a high temperature or fever and a loss of, or change in, normal taste or smell (anosmia).

However, people with Covid-19 can present with a wide range of symptoms including headache, sore muscles and joints, tiredness, sore throat, cold-like symptoms and diarrhoea and vomiting.

Anyone that becomes unwell should isolate immediately and seek a PCR test.
