The strath’s own Anna Chiesa, who runs Kingussie’s Ampla Vella, is “head” line news this week thanks to her new hairbrush.

No, we don’t mean she’s just bought a new one – she has designed, patented and produced an innovative new blow dry brush which is set to take the hairdressing world by storm.

Ms Chiesa, originally from Motherwell, is a full-time mum and hairdresser who has worked in the industry for more than 20 years and knows what every head wants.

“The idea came to me one day while blow drying a client’s hair,” she said. “In a ‘Eureka’ moment I realised there was a desperate need within the hairdressing world for a blow dry brush with a smaller barrel which would allow the user more precision when blow drying. After searching online for a product that matched my needs, I came to realise there was nothing out there that would serve the purpose.”

It led her on a journey which has culminated in this week’s launch. Anna found a design company in 2018 and in May 2019 a prototype was made. After rigorous testing, the details were tweaked and finalised, with Anna advised to approach a patent attorney as the brush had some unique features.

A UK patent was registered for the brush in June 2020 (British patent No: 2008938.9).

After securing patent protection a manufacturer was sourced. The brush is being manufactured by GB Kent and sons plc, a company which has been manufacturing brushes for over 240 years, ensuring a high quality brush made from the finest materials.

The state-of-the-art brush has been designed with a smaller barrel but the overall length is the same as a standard blow dry brush, making it immediately feel familiar to the user.

The compact barrel allows for precision blow drying, resulting in less heat damage and an overall smoother finish, Anna explained. It also creates even, balanced tension, this allows the hair to be pulled taught without any ‘slack’ on the sides (like with a larger barrelled brush) again resulting in a smoother, more refined blow dry.
