Kincraig man acquitted of rape and two sexual assault charges

A Kincraig man has been acquitted of raping and sexually assaulting a woman and of a sex assault on a second victim.

After a five day trial at the High Court in Inverness, the three charges against 21 year old Matthew Newbery, of Orchard Cottage were found not proven by a jury's majority.

The offences were alleged to have taken place in properties in Kincraig and Aviemore on February 14, 2018, February 15, 2020 and on November 28 and 29, 2020.

Newbery was defended by advocate Edith Forrest and local solicitor Natalie Paterson.

The prosecution was led by Colin Edward and Lord Cubie presided over the case.
