Dog-lovers in the strath have the chance to make a difference at a special "K9 Royale" night in Grantown on Saturday (March 30).

"It should be a great night," says Evril Spencer, of Nethy Bridge, "with lots of fun and games which at the same time will be helping to raise money and awareness of the plight of dogs in China.

"We will be raising funds for local rescues too."

The Munlochy Animal Aid organisation will also benefit from the occasion, which promises casino fun along with a raffle and auction.

"There are plenty of super prizes to be won," said Evril, who will be offering a generous finger buffet for the players on the night.

The event is being staged at Grantown's popular arts, education and events venue the Pagoda in Seafield Avenue, which has waived its charge in support of the cause.

Tickets – at £5 for entry, which includes finger buffet – are on sale now at The Bookmark in Grantown High Street and chips for the games can be bought on the night.

The doors will open at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start.

"We'll have fun but it's all about rescuing more dogs like poor Braveheart, pictured here, who after having both her front legs chopped off was saved from the dog meat trade by Amanda Leask.

"The dogs we will protect as a result of Saturday's big night can't say 'thanks' but I can, in advance!"
