Prison worker fell down manhole at Inverness Prison and had to be taken to hospital

An Inverness prison worker fell down a manhole and had to be taken to hospital yesterday.

The alarm was raised at 9.24am and fire crews were called to Duffy Drive.

They managed to rescue the man and he was taken to hospital with what were described as 'minor injuries'.

A spokesman for the Scottish Prison Service said: “There was an incident at HMP Inverness yesterday morning, in which a member of staff suffered minor injuries in a fall.

“Emergency services were called, and the individual received first aid at the scene before being taken to hospital as a precaution.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were alerted at 9.24am on Wednesday, December 7, to reports of a person who had fallen down a manhole near to Duffy Drive, Inverness.

“Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances, one height vehicle and specialist resources to the scene.

“Firefighters assisted a person in difficulty and handed them into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“Crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”

A police spokeswoman said: “Officers were called to a report of a man having fallen down a manhole at Duffy Drive, Inverness, around 9.30am on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. One man was taken to hospital.”
