The first Inverness Creative Academy Winter Artists and Makers Market since lockdown will give shoppers a chance to stock up on some unique Christmas present options later this month.

Based on past attendance, hundreds of visitors are expected to attend the free-to-attend event over the weekend of Saturday, November 27, and Sunday, November 28, in the former Inverness Royal Academy building in the city's Crown area.

Hosted by national artist studios provider Wasps, the market will run from 10am to 5pm, with a multitude of stalls offering ceramics, jewellery and textiles, greetings cards and original works of art and providing artists and craftsmakers from across the Highlands with an opportunity to meet potential customers face-to-face.

Among those taking part will be Inverness Creative Academy tenants Jenny Hepburn, Alan Campbell, Fiona Matheson and Claire Bois, as well as Scottish jeweller Jen Cunningham, leather goods crafter Flora Makes and painter/printmaker Susan McCreevy.

It is the first time Wasps has hosted a market at Inverness Creative Academy since the pandemic, and this will be the final event at the creative hub and former Inverness Royal Academy before the completion of the final phase of the development, with the formal opening due to be held in spring/summer of 2022.

Wasps chief executive Audrey Carlin said: “It is a pleasure to welcome visitors to this year’s Winter Market, something we’ve been looking forward to hosting for a while. It’s a tremendous opportunity for our tenants and the wider artist community to engage with potential customers and reveal to the public what fantastic creations emerge from these buildings and beyond.”

Wasps will shortly be considering applications for its Summer Market at Inverness Creative Academy. For more information potential vendors are asked to email Projects@waspsstudios.org.uk
