Today (Wednesday, August 12) thousands of pupils will go back to school, and it is anticipated that by next week full-time lessons will have recommenced for all youngsters in the area.

While recognising that lockdown had brought huge challenges for both pupils and their families, Ms Forbes was full of admiration for the region’s young people and teachers.

She said: “I wish all the children going back to school the very best.

“I know it is has been a challenging time for many families, as parent juggle working from home, home-schooling and family life.

“Teachers, too, have been working hard to prepare for this week in a time of great uncertainty. I have spoken to Highland Council about their preparations, and I know that great strides have been made to get schools ready.

“It’s been a strange year for young people, and hopefully the return to school will bring back even a small element of normality.”
