Long-held questions over the future of Kingussie’s historic livestock market may shortly be answered.

Members of Kingussie Community Development Company heard at their AGM last week that the company was under the impression that the Market Stance would never be used again for marts – at best in recent years it only ever saw one day of use in each of those years and has long stood derelict.

The disused market venue. In its heyday the market had its own platform at the local railway station, lower than standard heights for cattle ramps.

KCDC chairman Ian Moffett reported at the meeting: “As the Market Stance forms part of the Kingussie Common Good Fund, we are investigating the possibility of a community housing development."

He told a good turnout at the Duke of Gordon Hotel that it was currently just a concept.

“It is at an early stage but KCDC consider this a project well-worth investigating," said Mr Moffett.

"We see our role as incubating the possibility of getting the project off the ground.

“We will keep the community advised on progress.”

Meanwhile, there was positive news on the much anticipated upgrading of the Silverfjord junction just round the corner:

Mr Moffett commented: “At last we believe that our extremely hard work will result in the road work being carried out by the Highland Council commencing in January.

"Bob Kinnaird and Kenny Deans are to be thanked for their devotion to this project.”
