Hopes the visit of The BRITS will inspire next generation of Winter Olympians from the strath

The chairman of the Cairngorm Ski Club hopes that the staging of The BRITS will be an inspiration for local youngsters.

The CSC has been coaching young locals at the Cairngorm resort for more than 50 years.

Chairman Mark Tate said: "Set up as a race club we have been growing our freeski squad, over the past six years or so working alongside our friends at Cairngorm Snowboard Club.

"I am sure that seeing top riders from the UK and beyond come to Cairngorm will inspire both those youngsters who already train on the hill and encourage even more to get involved with their local snowsports clubs.

"It will also be great to see our local talent competing alongside the elite athletes.

"It is great news for Scottish snowsports."

The strath has a proud record of local athletes competing in the Winter Olympics and on the world stage although the supply line has dried up in more recent years.
