Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team leaders are calling on hill-goers to ensure they are properly equipped after they were called out last night to assist a 67 year old man who did not have a compass and got lost.
The man, from the Worcester area, was found on the summit of Carn Ban Mor in Glenfeshie after getting disorientated in mist.
A CMRT spokesman said: "He had become disorientated and called for assistance as the weather conditions deteriorated with thick cloud, rain showers and wind across the tops.
"The team located him a bit cold but in good spirits and we were able to evacuate him to our waiting vehicles."
Deputy team leader Willie Anderson said: "He was up for a few days hill walking and went up Carn Ban Mor and got lost in the mist. He wandered about. He had a map but no compass and the mist came in.
"He tried to get off the hill around three times but was not sure he was going in the right direction so basically we went up and escorted him off the hill and back to his car.
"He was fine."
There were eight rescuers involved in the three-hour rescue who took a vehicle as high as they could into Glenfeshie.
The rescue team was alerted at around 6pm.
Mr Anderson said: "We found the man on the summit.
"He realised he had a good marker with the cairn and he did not want to lose that which was fine as it made our job a lot easier rather than him wandering about."
Team leader Iain Cornfoot said that it had been a straight-forward rescue but added: "The guy did not have a compass so if he been properly equipped he could have got himself down or it could have been a simpler rescue as we would have been able to talk him down.
"It might be summer but having the right equipment prevents people being caught out and makes life easier for us."
