A care home hit by a mass outbreak of Covid-19 cases has reported another 18 positive test results.

NHS Highland said on Thursday last week that, Meallmore Lodge, seven miles south of Inverness near Moy, had suffered 35 coronavirus infections – with 17 residents and 18 staff testing positive.

This morning the health authority updated the figures, saying 53 people were now affected – 25 residents and 28 staff.

The condition of those now isolating is not known.

Meallmore Lodge provides various forms of residential and respite care for elderly and vulnerable residents. It served Badenoch and Strathspey for many years.

NHS Highland said it was working with health and social care colleagues, local community nursing teams, and local GPs to prevent any further spread of the virus within the care home and wider community.

It has also made a support team available to assist the owners of the home.
