Kate Forbes MSP has urged Highlanders to respond to a new Scottish Parliament inquiry on healthcare provision in rural and remote areas.
The Scottish government's health, social care and sport committee launched its consultation last week, with convener Clare Haughey MSP saying the committee wants to hone in on specific challenges as well as what can be done to improve services across rural Scotland.
The Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch constituency includes several hospitals, in addition to GP practices, health centres, care homes and dental surgeries.
Kate Forbes MSP said: “Healthcare is one of the most frequently raised issues with me and I am in regular dialogue with both NHS Highland and the Scottish Government.
“There are a number of live issues, such as healthcare provision in North Skye, a new Belford hospital, and access to dental services – to name but a few.
“As we emerge from the pandemic, this inquiry is an opportunity for people across the Highlands to let the Scottish Parliament know how healthcare is functioning in their own locality – what’s working well, and what could be improved.
“I think it’s really important that people speak out about their lived experiences, as honest feedback from the coalface is absolutely invaluable.”
Responses can be submitted to the Health, Social Care and Sport Committee directly at engage.parliament.scot/group/29190.
The call for views closes on August 11, 2023.
