NHS Highland is seeking to recruit two independent members of the public to join two of its local committees.

They are looking for a local community volunteer to join the Board’s Clinical Governance Committee as well as a person to join the Health and Social Care Committee.

The new member for the Clinical Governance Committee will join board members, senior clinicians and managers on the committee to help oversee the board’s work in a number of key management and clinical areas.

Alasdair Christie chair of Clinical Governance committee, said: “Clinical governance is at the heart of what we do – it is about ensuring the quality and safety of care and treatment.

“The clinical governance committee acts as the guardian of the quality and safety ambitions contained within NHS Highland’s Quality and Patient Safety Framework.

“Hearing the voice of the public in this work is really important and helps us to hear what is important to people who use our services.”

Expertise in Healthcare is not required as expert advice will be available in the team to advise independent members – who are expected to attend six meetings over a 12 month period, with meetings mostly held in Inverness.

Arrangements can be made for people to attend by video conference.

The Health and Social Care Committee role will likewise involve six meetings over the year and the work will involve reading committee papers in advance and attending occasional informal meetings in the morning of the Committee.

Gerry O’Brien, chair of the committee said: “The committee has a wide range of responsibilities for health and social care services across the Highland Council area and it is essential that we have the public’s input to the decisions it makes. It is important to hear the views of people who use our services, carers alongside those of clinicians, managers and partners and I would encourage patients, carers and members of the public with an interest in how we run NHS Highland to consider applying.”

NHS Highland will provide travel and accommodation arrangements as well as reimburse any necessary costs.

Anyone interested in applying can contact NHS Highland’s board secretary by email at ruth.daly@nhs.net or write to Ruth Daly, Board Secretary, NHS Highland, Assynt House, Beechwood Park, Inverness, IV2 3BW.

Information is also available on the NHS Highland website: www.nhshighland.scot.nhs.uk/careers/board-and-committee-appointments/ and the deadline for applying is September 18.
