Green light for much needed light industrial units in Aviemore

The green light has been given to badly needed light industrial units at the north end of Aviemore.

Members of the Cairngorms National Park Authority's planning committee provided their full backing to the application by the Granish Farm Partnership for the site at Granish.

The 20 commercial letting units will be built next to the Aviemore Kart Raceway and Highland Council's recycling site on a brownfield site currently lying derelict.

The development will also comprise an access road, parking areas and associated infrastructure at Knockgranish.

One of the owners of the Aviemore-based company, Cameron Munro, was delighted with the unanimously approval given at the meeting held at the Macdonald Aviemore Resort earlier today.

He told the Strathy after the go-ahead: "We are very happy with the decision. It has been a long-time in the offing.

"We have worked hard with our architect and professional team to bring this application to fruition.

"The design was something very important to us to make sure that the units attracted not just bigger commercial entities but also smaller local businesses."

Mr Munro said there had been considerable interest in their plans and he hopes work can now start 'very quickly' on the project.

As part of the debate, planning committee member Bill Lobban said the time had come to consider an extension northwards of the speed limit given this go-ahead as well as the Oakwood Caravan Park also opening up in recent years off the road.

Mr Lobban said that a 30mph or 40mph limit should be considered given the level of traffic now entering and exiting the B9152 north of Aviemore.

CNPA planning officer Stephanie Wade had earlier told the meeting: “The application site is ideal for this type of development given its location in a semi-industrial location.

"This proposal would bring this underused, brownfield site back into productive use, fulfilling a need to support the local economy by providing much needed business premises.”
