Parents and friends of Grantown Primary School have gone high and low to raise some funds for the school - literally.
As Mairi Crawford told the Strathy:”Summit to Sea is our way of boosting the coffers for the school.
“Four years and a pandemic after our first ever Summit to Sea event, parents and friends of the children challenged themselves in an effort to fill in some of the gaps in funding that council money is not available to do.
“We know that all schools have tight budgets and we are keen to help provide some things that might help the kids to have a fuller experience at school.
“In order to do that, we had two teams taking on a relay of activities, leaving the summit of Cairngorm, and finishing in the sea in Findhorn, ready to ski, run, swim - in the sea and Loch Morlich - and cycle along the way.
“ We appreciate that its not just school budgets that are tight. However, we have received plentyh of encouragement and support to make all the effort worthwhile.”
The team actually delayed their challenge by a day last week and as Mairi said: “Our decision turned out to be a good one!
“Some of the parents managed to get to the top of Cairngorm by 8am, and skied most of the way down to the bottom, we then ran, swam, cycled, ran, cycled, ran (again) and finally went into the sea - arriving in Findhorn just after 4pm.
I”t was a full on day of activity in mixed weather, little visibility up Cairngorm and very cold water in Loch Morlich. But we were delighted to have made it.
“We very much appreciate all the sponsorship we have received so far.
“If people would like to add to the donations, we would be grateful for more funds to add to what we can give to boost funds for the primary school.
“So far we have raised nearly £1,000. Hopefully seeing these snowy photos will prompt more folk to donate!”
