A self-employed plumber who crashed his works van several times after drinking with a friend has been banned from the road for a year.

But Sheriff Robert Frazer certified David McCulloch, (33), of High Street, Grantown as suitable for the drink drive rehabilitation course.

McCulloch had admitted driving his vehicle on August 1, 2021 while unfit through drink or drugs.

He also pleaded guilty to driving carelessly at various locations on the A95 between Grantown and Advie and colliding with a roller door at the local industrial estate, a gate at Cromdale and a fencepost half a mile away.

McCulloch will earn a three month discount on his disqualification if he successfully completes the course which he must fund himself.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told that there was considerable damage to the van as the other property.

Sheriff Frazer fined McCulloch a total of £1025 and ordered him to pay £1,000 compensation.
