A Grantown man who cupped a woman’s breasts and told her 'they needed lifted up' has been put on the sex offenders register.

David Woodcock (56) carried out the sexual assault on July 27, last year, at School Place in Dulnain Bridge.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard previously that Woodcock had been under the influence and claimed he had unintentionally touched her but was found guilty of the charge after trial.

The woman, a council worker, said she was groped by him after thinking he was making a friendly gesture.

Sheriff Eilidh MacDonald found Woodcock, of Beachen Court, Grantown, guilty of sexually assaulting the woman by touching her sides, lower back and placing his hands on her breasts.

He has now been sentenced to a supervision requirement for 12 months and a restriction of liberty order between the hours of 8pm and 8am each day and he will be tagged to monitor his progress.

Woodcock was also made subject to the requirements of the sex offenders register for one year. The sentence was a direct alternative to custody.
