A Grantown based-funeral director is warning local people to be on the look-out for unscrupulous scammers trying to make a quick profit from the loss of loved ones.

The culprits are inviting Facebook followers to join live streams of funeral services and are sending friend requests using pictures of clients.

It is thought that they are phishing for personal details to help access and scam money from accounts.

Nikki Ross, boss of John Ross Funeral Services Ltd, said: "It is important to note that as a reputable funeral director we would never use our Facebook page for such purposes.

"Please take extra care and avoid anything that seems suspicious.

"It is very sad that scammers would target funeral services and cause unnecessary upset to families at such a sensitive time but unfortunately they are."

She added: ""I just wanted to make sure that people are vigilant and avoid accepting friend requests from suspicious looking pages.

"We ask people to like our page but would never send out friend requests or live stream links in this way."
