The 25th anniversary of World Book Day on Thursday will be celebrated across High Life Highland libraries with a huge range of activities.

Alongside World Book Day-themed Bookbug sessions, there will be book tokens that can be swapped for special books, competitions, fancy dress, book sales and displays.

Julie Corcoran, Principal Libraries manager for High Life Highland, said: “We’re delighted to be able to celebrate World Book Day in our libraries again this year and there will be lots to get involved in for young and old.

“World Book Day aims to promote reading for pleasure and our libraries play a unique role in changing lives through a love of books and shared reading.

“Getting young people interested in reading is vitally important and provides skills that will have an impact on a child's future so do come and visit us and see what we have to offer.”

High Life Highlands runs 40 libraries and eight mobile libraries and are free to join, giving people access to not just physical books, magazines, newspapers and computers, but thousands of titles through its online service too.

School libraries will also be joining in the fun with free books, readings and competitions.

You can find out what is going on for World Book Day at your local library or searching for its local page on Facebook.
