Visitors to Cairngorm Mountain will not be able to travel on the funicular railway from Sunday to the following Friday.

The funicular, the UK’s longest and highest railway of its kind, will be undergoing essential maintenance during the period.

However, spectators will be able to view one of the 15-tonne carriages being lifted off the track and suspended in the air while its bogeys are removed for replacement as part of a routine cycle of maintenance of the 14-year-old funicular.

The timing of the work has to be co-ordinated with the availability of the replacement bogeys and of the supplier’s availability to help with the work.

The annual inspection of the track will take place at the same time.

Visitors to the ticket office in the base station will be able to see the suspended carriage through the windows of the ticket office concourse.
