Patients can now enjoy free Wi-Fi at five Highland hospitals.

The service, powered by telecoms firm WiFi SPARK, will ensure browsing costs nothing at the following locations: National Treatment Centre, Inverness; Caithness General Hospital; Wick Town and County Hospital; Dunbar Hospital, Thurso); and large parts of Raigmore Hospital.

It comes with content filtering and quality broadband and, once connected, patients will have direct access to general internet services, email, and entertainment platforms including Inverness Hospital Radio, the voluntary broadcasting service for hospital patients across Highland.

Patients can connect for free with their own personal devices, whether smartphone, tablet or laptop.

An NHS Highland spokesman said: “When staying in hospital, patients should remember to bring along a device that has access to the internet, as well as a charger and headphones.

“Posters will be displayed around the hospital detailing how to connect to the Wi-Fi on devices.”

A WiFi SPARK service support desk is available 24 hours a day for those needing additional help.

There are plans to extend the availability of patient Wi-Fi to more hospital locations across NHS Highland’s area in the future.
