As the funeral of HRH Prince Philip took place this afternoon in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, members of a social media group in the strath were fondly remembering the day he brought the crowd out at a Badenoch village in the early '60s.

Sandy Macdonald, of Newtonmore and Badenoch Heritage, has been asking members of the group for memories of the great day and several responses have come from those in the know.

"I remember the Prince in the Balavil," recalled one member

"Did Hughie Chisholm present him with a caman?" asked another.

Members agreed with one suggestion that, according to the diary of one father, the great event had taken place on March 23, 1961.

"Can anyone remember the day Prince Philip visited Newtonmore?" asked Sandy Macdonald.

"This is in the old tourist office next to the village hall."
