NHS Highland region records 15 new Covid-19 cases; increase came as 744 fresh coronavirus infections were reported across Scotland over the past 24 hours

FIFTEEN new cases of coronavirus have been recorded across the NHS Highland region.

The area's cumulative number of positive tests increased from 1723 to 1738 when the latest daily update was published.

Scotland reported 744 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

Some 1032 people were receiving treatment for the virus in the nation's hospitals yesterday – up 20 from the previous day.

Of those, 50 people were in intensive care – a figure unchanged from the last update.

Sadly there were 36 further deaths reported among people who previously tested positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north, there were no new cases in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar.

NHS Grampian's cumulative number of cases passed the 6000 mark after it recorded another 94 infections in the past day.

And NHS Tayside saw its overall tally rise by 87 to 6943.

Scotland has now recorded 110,040 positive tests since the beginning of the pandemic.
