ELEVEN fresh coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the NHS Highland area.

The region's cumulative number of infections increased from 1602 to 1613 when the latest daily update was published by the Scottish Government.

Across Scotland there were 933 positive tests for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

Some 984 people were receiving treatment in hospital for the coronavirus last night – up 12 on the previous day.

Of those, 52 were in intensive care. This was up two on Wednesday's update.

And sadly there were a further 50 confirmed deaths among those who previously tested positive for the virus. This took the overall Scottish death toll – by that measure – beyond 4000 to 4039.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, the Northern Isles have now gone a week since their last confirmed case.

But NHS Eileanan Siar saw its cumulative total increase by four to 86 overnight.

NHS Grampian has recorded 63 additional cases for a running tally of 1613. And NHS Tayside added 57 new infections to take its overall total to 6434.

Scotland has now recorded 103,305 positive tests for Covid-19 since the pandemic first began.
