A LITTER pick is taking place in Newtonmore this Sunday.

Newtonmore Community Woodland & Development Trust and the village's business association are organising the event,

Paul Allan, NCWDT secretary, said: "We are looking for volunteers to pick up litter around all the village streets and countryside paths. We ran a litter pick last year which was a great success.

"Unfortunately the rubbish situation has not really improved and we carrying out the exercise again as part Keep Britain Tidy and Keep Scotland Beautiful campaigns.

"We have some troublesome areas, particularly on the exit roads from the village where motorists seem to think it acceptable to simply throw their rubbish from their vehicles and leave it for others to pick up.

"There are many people in the village who work hard to keep the village tidy, as well Highland Council, but rubbish is an on-going issue."

Volunteers are asked to meet at the Wildcat Centre on Main Street at 10am. Litter picking equipment will be provided as will refreshments.
