A DYNAMIC young landscape artist who has won fans across the globe is set to unveil the first glimpse at her latest body of work in Aviemore.

Art lovers will have the chance to gaze upon Ellis O’Connor’s latest pieces at an exhibition in The Laundry Gallery, which launches on Saturday following a preview evening tomorrow (Friday, March 29) between 7pm and 9pm to which Strathy readers are welcome.

Ellis’s work has become highly collectible after winning admirers with her dramatic portrayals of the moments when sea, land, air and light collide. All the works in the new show Sumainn – “the swell of the sea” in Gaelic – are on an impressively large scale, many created whilst she was artist in residence on the island of Iona during February.

She said: “I’m really excited to exhibit my paintings for the first time in Aviemore and work with the Laundry Gallery. My work is inspired from my surroundings in the Outer Hebrides where I live on North Uist but I’m very keen to find new inspiration from the incredibly varied surroundings of Aviemore for future work.

“I have spent a great deal of time on my new set of 11 large paintings for my solo show and I’m delighted to be able to showcase them in such a creative setting.”

At the launch, Ellis (pictured) will also meet some of the students who will be taking part in her open air drawing course at the gallery in June. She has taught drawing and painting classes all over Scotland, but this is the first time that she has brought her popular “plein air” workshops to the Cairngorms.

Sumainn runs until Saturday, April 27. The Plein Air Drawing weekend workshop takes place over June 8 to 9. Visit www.thelaundrygallery.net for details.
