A Grantown man turned his anger on his mother when he came home drunk and she decided to phone the police.

Sean McAdam, who has been moving around the Highlands with addresses in Nairn and Alness, had been staying in the town's High Street at the time.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told earlier today that McAdam went to his mother's home at Muirton Place, Boat of Garten, on January 23, earlier this year and was heavily intoxicated.

Fiscal depute David Morton told Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald: "An altercation developed and she went to phone the police. He took exception to this, grabbed her phone, removed the sim card and bit it in half.

"He then threw her phone on the floor.

"However his mother was able to use her work phone to call the police. When officers arrived, he spat at one of them on his forehead and glasses."

The court heard that when arrested, McAdam lashed out with his legs.

The 25 year old admitted threatening behaviour and police assault.

McAdam also pleaded guilty to other offences.

He assaulted two police officers in Chapel Street, Inverness on May 31, earlier this year, by throwing trainers at them and threatening behaviour towards his mother at her home on October 11, 2020.

On the same date, McAdam admitted to maliciously striking the windows of two neighbours' houses.

Sentence was deferred on all matters until September 23 for a background report.
