A Grantown man was found walking drunk along the A95 road and causing a hazard to motorists, a court has heard.

Richard Thomson (34) was seen by multiple drivers around 10pm on May 6, last year, on the trunk road just outside the town.

Fiscal depute Emma MacEwan told Inverness Sheriff Court he was seen to be 'staggering' before becoming aggressive with people stopping to check if he was was okay.

Thomson, of Dulaig Court, Grantown then struck out at several vehicles including breaking the wing mirror off one car.

The police arrived on scene around 10.24pm and he continued to act in a threatening and abusive manner and struggled with officers.

Sheriff Eilidh MacDonald described Thomson,'s behaviour as 'appalling'.

She sentenced him earlier today to a structured deferred sentence to see if he could remain out of trouble.

The sheriff will hear an update about his progress on August 10.
