A man has been banned from the roads after testing more than seven and a half times over the prescribed limit for cocaine traces whilst driving on the A9 in Badenoch.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard yesterday that Calum Alsop had been using the class A drug during one of the peaks of lockdown restrictions.

He was stopped by police while driving on January 5, last year, on the A9 between Kingussie and Aviemore at the junction for the B9152.

The 32-year-old tested positive for 376 micrograms of benzoylecgonine per litre of blood.

The prescribed limit is 50 micrograms,

Sheriff David Harvie imposed a community payback order with a supervision element of one year.

It means that during this time he will have to cooperate with social workers and any plans they put in place.

Alsop, of Glenfield Park, Ullapool, was also disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 12 months.
