One motorist, Inverness-based bus driver Gaynor Boath, told the Strathy: "We were all being told the avoid the area and I was able to get off the A9 and have now finally arrived in Perth a couple of hours late having diverted round Blair Atholl and on to the back roads.

"We're not sure just what happened but there were fire engines, police and ambulances involved and we were told that one of the people involved had to be cut from his vehicle.

"We have no idea how long it will be before the road opens or just how we'll be making our return journey as yet."

More as it comes in.
