Kinrara Distillery, based at Lynwilg Farm Steading on the outskirts of the village, was founded in 2017 and started producing its first spirits in 2018.

Using local botanicals harvested from the Kinrara Estate, such as rowanberries and rosehips, the distillery produces a range of unique award-winning Highland Gins, with this latest award being the biggest feather in its cap.

Luke Fenton, its commercial manager, said: “This is an absolutely wonderful achievement for us. We’re just a small distillery, producing our gin in batches of just 240 bottles at a time – for our team to be recognised on such a global scale for the quality of our gin is just amazing.

“The team are absolutely delighted, especially our distiller, David Wilson. We all know how good our gin is but now the world knows too!”

During the COVID 19 pandemic, the distillery was re-purposed to produce Hand Sanitiser for the NHS and care homes throughout the Highlands, as well as businesses locally and nationally throughout the UK.

“It’s been a tough year for small alcohol producers with pubs, restaurants, retailers and tourism sites being closed. So this has definitely lifted us for the year ahead and we look forward to welcoming people back to our distillery very soon.”

Kinrara Distillery is usually open to the public and plans to resume business as normal when restrictions are lifted later in the year. With distillery tours available daily, a distillery shop and a newly refitted tasting room.
