The Strathy has asked Network Rail for details on the problems which have reportedly closed Platform Two at Kingussie Railway Station.

The town's community council chairman raised the issue today as his train south was held up until cleared to go, with only one platform in use currently.

"It is the direct through line and Platform 1 is the 'loop'. I noticed the Stobart Tesco train going through on the slow loop yesterday and thought it was strange," said Ruaridh Ormiston.

"This is causing all sorts of service delays as trains cannot 'pass' each other in Kingussie just now.

"Was the bridge maybe damaged in the last floods closing the loop?

"Someone said it is related to the new passenger bridge with lifts but there are no visual signs of work starting yet."

Local information has it that the hold up is due to damage done to the Gynack Burn section of track, caused by the latest floods.

The Strathy understands the repairs can't be done to the track until December, but no response from the operators had been received yet.
