A chef who refused to give police two breath tests when he was stopped on the A9 between Kingussie and Newtonmore was fined £320.

Kieran Farrell, of Thorn Tree Place, Oakley, was also banned from driving for 16 months at Inverness Sheriff Court after admitting both offences which occurred on June 4 this year.

Defence solicitor David Patterson told Sheriff Sara Matheson: "He has struggled for the majority of his life with alcohol.

"The offence coincided with the collapse of his relationship with his partner and he turned to alcohol.

"He was living a transient lifestyle at the time and is now living in Fife."
