A £1.9m cash injection into the Highland Wildlife Park has been highlighted at Holyrood.

Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston has submitted a motion to the Scottish Parliament welcoming the award by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

He said it was good news for the tourism and hospitality sectors in Badenoch and Strathspey.

Mr Halcro Johnston, Scottish Conservative Shadow Minister for Tourism, said: “The Highland Wildlife Park is a significant contributor to the economy of Badenoch and Strathspey and this award should make the park even more attractive to visitors, as well contributing to its important conservation work.

“That is very good news for local businesses that rely on tourism, a sector which is so important here but which has suffered greatly because of the pandemic.

“Like many other people, I very much look forward to seeing the new developments when I next visit the park, along with the remarkable array of Scottish wildlife and endangered animals that the park provides a home to.”
