An inveterate marathon heroine from Carrbridge is taking on the "challenge of a lifetime" to help in the battle with breast cancer.

Gillian Beveridge has been supporting Walk the Walk for six years and has completed 14 events already. Now she is preparing for the MoonWalk Scotland on June 8 – and calling on locals to set her on her way with a race night at Grantown on Friday (April 12).

"We're organising the event in the Royal British Legion where for £5 anyone can be a jockey and test their own stamina.

"It'll be great fun," promises Gillian. "Anyone interested can contact me on 01479 841451 or at gillmacbev@yahoo.co.uk".

Walk the Walk is the UK's largest grant making breast cancer charity. It was conceived after a dream by the founder and CEO Nina Barrough, who completed the New York Marathon in a decorated bra with 12 of her friends.

"I became involved when a friend who had been through breast cancer treatment asked me to walk the Edinburgh Moonwalk with her in 2014," said Gillian.

"I enjoyed the experience so much I signed up the following year, going solo and then with another friend in 2016.

"I wanted to push myself further for the cause, so signed up for Three Land Challenge in 2017 and 2018. This involved power walking three marathons in five weeks in London, Edinburgh and Iceland.

"By then I'd really got the walking bug! So I walked the 50km Thames Path Challenge, Dublin Marathon, Edinburgh Kiltwalk, Disneyland 10km and half Marathon, then the New York Marathon..."

This year Gillian has completed the Big Half in London and is now set to complete the Glasgow Kiltwalk, London and Edinburgh Moonwalks, the Nijmegen Marches (four marathons in as many days) and a 10-day Trek in Patagonia!

She pays her own travel and accommodation expenses.

Any Strathy ready wanting to sponsor her adventures this year can contact her direct or access her Everyday Hero fundraising page at http://wtwalk.org/multichallenges2019/gillian-11
