An upset Badenoch couple have posted sickening images after their pet chickens were all slaughtered in their coop.

"There is a dog running loose in Kingussie and killing livestock," Ali Leiper told the Strathy this morning after discovering that all four of their hens had been killed by an animal which somehow how broken through a 1.5m high wire fence they had erected especially.

"Because this has happened before we are so careful," she explained. "In our 13 years here this has happened before, but we had taken extra care to protect our hens from dogs in the area which are just not kept under control.

"Three times this has happened now, which is ridiculous."

Ali and Simon Leiper live in the Kerrow area at the north end of the Badenoch capital and there is a field beside their home where dogs are sometimes allowed to run free.

"But this one somehow – obviously completely free to roam – got in. Presumably over the fence, which has been damaged.

"It's so frustrating and difficult to deal with. It's hard, you know? People think 'they're only chickens' but these are actually our pets, we're just a domestic here and we have four chickens which give the family some lovely fresh eggs. Our parents love to have the occasional fresh free range eggs.

"But this is so frustrating and difficult to deal with.

"Anyone round here in the same situation needs to know that some people round here just do not control their dogs. They need to be on their guard – and people need to take better care of their own pets."

"Somebody in Kingussie, at least, has a dog they can't keep on a lead, or under supervision" said Mr Leiper. "They've let their dog come out here after we let our chickens out at first light.

"People need to bloody well control their dogs.

"If anyone has seen a dog running loose around Kerrow Dr between 9am to the back of 10am then please get in touch."
