Storm Gerrit causes carnage in one quiet corner of Badenoch

A visitor staying with friends at Kincraig has had his visit extended – by Storm Gerrit.

Ardgeal became Ard Gale today as the storm picked up and caused havoc across the strath, with several roads blocked until teams could get to work shifting the timber out of the way.

But at the eco-friendly housing just to the east of Kincraig, the settlement was blocked completely with so many trees hauled over by the blast – which took out a visitor's saloon which had been parked overnight.

The Strathy understands there have been no injuries, but one resident, Lee-Anne Dawson, said: "Crazy amount of trees down at Ardgeal.

"It’s been a scary morning/afternoon watching the carnage unfold – meanwhile my husband is stuck in his snowplough at Drumochter.

"I hope everyone is safe and warm."

After 3pm Mrs Dawson posted: "Thank goodness it's all settle down now."

But there's no estimate yet of when the road out will be fully clear, with so many trees down.
