Car parking charges at Cairngorm Mountain will come back into effect later this month following the end of the winter snowsports season.

The charge will be £3 per vehicle per day in the main parking area at the base of Coire Cas from Monday 25 April.

Drivers using the car park will pay on exit at an automated gate, either with cash or contactless bank card.

Exemptions will be in place for people with blue badges as well as emergency and contractor vehicles.

The parking fee normally applies between April and October but was temporarily suspended during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cairngorm Mountain has said that as before, all income from the parking charges will be reinvested on-site including helping to fund car park development, loos, drainage, footpath maintenance and other environmental initiatives such as the Cairngorm ranger service.

Resort operator Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) Ltd (CMSL) designed the parking system following consultation with the Cairngorms National Park Authority and other stakeholders, and expects it will provide a smoother experience for car park users.

Susan Smith, chief executive of CMSL, said: “Challenging weather conditions at this altitude make operating a car park costly and difficult, so the contributions from vehicle owners are a great help to offset running costs.

“Funds raised from the parking charge will be reinvested back into the estate so that we can continue to offer all our visitors the best possible experience.”
