A huge saltire was unfurled yesterday at Ruthven Barracks – Kingussie's burned out Hanoverian hangover – and caused quite a flap with passing visitors who wondered just what was occurring.

The flag itself didn't flap – it was laid out on the mound – but campaigners brought their smaller versions which gentle flapped in the breeze on a good day.

All was explained on the Caley on Tour Facebook page:

"A group of proud Scots are organising one of the largest saltires in Scotland to be displayed in as many locations throughout our country."󠁧󠁢󠁳

The flag has flown at Grant Park, Forres and at Duffus Castle and has been named “Caley”.

Judith Reid, Scott MacKenzie and three others were on Indyref2 duty at Ruthven Barracks and confirmed:

"At Ruthven Barracks today responses from the A9 travellers and those who came by to talk with us makes our #PromoteScotland so very worthy."
