A Highlands MSP has called for the owners of Cairngorm Mountain to make regular progress reports on the on-going work to repair the funicular.

Fergus Ewing (SNP) said the immediate focus should be on getting the mountain railway back on track in time for the 2021/22 ski season.

It follows yesterday's publication by Highlands and Islands Enterprise of the Cairngorm Estate Masterplan laying out the vision for the resort and wider lands for the next 25 years.

The Strathspey MSP said: "The immediate priority is for the completion of repairs to the funicular and that all public bodies work closely with the management and whole team at Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) Limited – who have the best understanding of the practicalities – to ensure completion of these works as swiftly as possible.

"Regular progress reports should be made public.

"Any potential causes of delay must be avoided by all public bodies.

"I shall be seeking clarity on all these points from HIE."

A spokesperson for HIE said: “Funicular strengthening works restarted in April and, despite the challenges of heavy late snowfall and rain in the early weeks, are progressing well.

“All the parties involved – including HIE, Balfour Beatty and CMSL – have really come together as ‘Team Cairngorm’ with a focus on getting the job done on schedule and to the highest possible standard.

“We recognise the strong public interest in Cairngorm and will issue regular updates as the works progress.”
