“I’ll need to practise my Joey Tribbiani face for the awards,” he joked, alluding to Matt LeBlanc’s immortal struggling actor in the smash-hit US sitcom Friends.

He told the Strathy: “I am delighted to have been nominated in two categories. It is always nice to be personally recognised but as with all nominations it reflects on the positive work undertaken by the whole organisation.

“It is great to be nominated alongside lots of other leaders across the private, public and third sectors and I am looking forward to the ceremony.”

The winners are scheduled to be announced on June 8 in Edinburgh.

Mr Moir will be up against a formidable line-up: Stuart Black, CEO of Highlands & Islands Enterprise; Michael Golding, CEO at Visit Inverness Loch Ness; Esther Black, Crown Estate Scotland; Shona MacLennan, of Bòrd na Gàidhlig

The IoD Scotland announced the names of 39 leaders overall for the 2023 Director of the Year Awards, including 11 individuals from Aberdeen-shire and the Highlands.

The annual awards, sponsored by Turcan Connell, Zero Waste Scotland, Wheatley Group, SCVO, Scottish Government, Insights, and Prosperity, will celebrate leadership during a challenging year. Over 100 submissions were received from leaders across Scotland.

Each finalist will also be entered into one of seven corresponding regional categories, with the hope of being recognised as Director of the Year in their region.

The winners will be crowned at the prestigious ceremony at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.

The occasion will be the first Director of the Year awards with Catherine McWilliam at the helm.

The nations director at the Institute of Directors Scotland said: “The IoD’s Director of the Year Awards are renowned for attracting high calibre entries from across Scotland’s director community, so it is an honour to be able to recognise and celebrate their immense achievements.

“I am regularly struck by the resilience and commitment shown by our directors across the country.”
