Cairngorm Mountain has outlined steps it is taking to try and prevent any spread of coronavirus amongst snowsports fans attracted by the promise of a great few days coming up on the hill.

The ski resort has 10 centimetres of fresh powder to add to the existing excellent cover and great overheard conditions with light winds.

Wall to wall sunshine is forecast for today and the resort's own freestyle park will open this morning for the first time this season with lots of features; pipes, rails, boxes, rollers, small and big jumps.

But ski resort bosses are aware of the growing concern over the spread of covid-19 although the Highlands is yet to have a confirmed case.

A Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) spokesperson said: "We are looking forward to this weekend. We have some fantastic snow conditions and we want to maximise visitors' enjoyment in the fressh air.

"We do not wish to limit snowsport participants on the hill but we have to control numbers in areas of high congestion due to Covid-19.

"We will do everything to reduce numbers in the cafes and restaurants by opening the Shieling, Ptarmigan and Base Station for packed lunched.

"We will need visitors' co-operation and where possible for themt o stagger lunch breaks to avoid peak periods.

"We will be limiting customers in the main restaurant and ski hire to 100 people at a time.

"We will not be running a shuttle bus service as we do not wish to have sustomers in close proximity.

"It would be most appreciated if hill walkers and mountaineers used the Ciste car park and accessed the high tops via the Ciste ridge and where possible avoid the Cas car parks at the weekend.

"We hope the public understands that we are doing everythign possible to give customers a good experience but also having to take a serious responsibility to the situation we find ourselves in regarding covid-19."
