The full compliment of the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team was called out last night to join the search for a missing walker on a 'wild night' as Storm Corrie swept through the strath.

The missing man had become separated from his walking partner on the Cairngorm plateau after losing his way as they tried to navigate their way to Ben Macdui.

The call-out came in driving snow and gale force winds after team members had been attending a training day.

Cairngorm MRT deputy team leader Willie Anderson said: "One was better at navigating than the other, and they became separated.

"The other then found himself alone and without a map and he called for help.

"Another group of climbers by chance came across him, and they escorted him down to the car park where we met him.

"We did have some concern for the other gentleman, as we thought he should be back by now as someone who could navigate, but he eventually managed to make his way back to the ski area.

"As you know it was a particularly wild night.

"We would just ask walkers to please keep your eye on the weather forecast and don't be afraid to change your plans for the day if the forecast or overground conditions dictate it."
