Cairngorm funicular expected to be back on track this winter early 2023

Cairngorm Mountain owner Highlands and Islands Enterprise has said it expects operations will start up again in winter early 2023.

The rough date was given in an update on on-goings at the resort.

It states: "In addition to engineering works to strengthen the two kilometre viaduct, the funicular control system is being replaced.

"Once this has been done, the service will be put through rigorous quality and safety assessments, including certification, before passengers are again welcomed on board."

A spokesman for HIE said there was no specific date for the return of the funicular which has been out of service since Septemner 2018.

He commented: “Structural work is progressing well and expected to conclude shortly. Meanwhile works are under way to instal the new funicular control system in the coming weeks.

"Following completion and relevant testing, commissioning and certification, our aim is for the funicular to run again during the winter season.”

There is another boost for snowsports fans – particularly for those just learning to ski or snowboard.

The announcement states: "We’re also investing in new magic carpets which will be installed at the start of the snowsports season to make it easier to reach the learners slopes."

These will be the first magic carpets to be installed at Cairngorm Mountain and will make getting up the slopes easier for beginners.

Resort bosses have said there has been significant investment made to transform the Ptarmigan restaurant and bar at the summit while the Coire Cas car park is undergoing a major overhaul to provide a much warmer welcome and experience for visitors.

There will be clearly marked parking bays, pedestrian pathways to walks and improved signage as well as benches and green space.

The resort's early bird season passes are also now on sale with savings of more than 35 per cent on offer compared to full prices.
