Police firearm units have been deployed to the area around Farr about eight miles south of Inverness amid reports of an armed individual in the vicinity.

According to Police Scotland they were called to the area just after 11.30 today following a single report of the armed individual.

Locally officers were going gone door to door asking residents if they have seen an "armed individual" with “long, shaggy hair and dark trousers.”

Only one report was made to police and there were no further sightings though police say that enquiries into the incident are continuing."

Police also visited Farr Primary School “following a safety concern in the local community” and it is understood that the school was secured and the children were not allowed out for lunch.

The school blog states: “Following a safety concern in the local community, we have just had a visit from the Police and have been assured that there is no risk at present for our school and community.

“Please note the Police will continue to be a visible presence in the area for reassurance this afternoon.”

A Highland Council spokeswoman said: "I’m not able to comment on the police presence in the area, however I’ve spoken with the school and can confirm that Police Scotland Officers visited and reassured Farr Primary School that there is no risk at present to the school and wider community. School day will end as normal."

The community council said on its social media page that “Police Scotland are in the area. They have informed the community council that they are looking into reports and have the appropriate resources in the area.

“They have asked that the community remain calm and reassured that this matter will be resolved quickly.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 11.35 am on Tuesday, 25 April 2023, police were called to a report of a man carrying what was believed to be a firearm in Farr, near Inverness.

"Officers, including armed response officers, attended and a search of the area was carried out, however, no one at this time has been traced.

"There have been no further reports or sightings of the man made to police. Enquiries into the incident are continuing."
